Boscawen is located in Merrimack County, New Hampshire. It is bounded by the Merrimack and Contoocook Rivers, and is crossed by U.S. Routes 3 and 4.

Boscawen was settled in 1734 and soon after had a meeting house, sawmill, gristmill, and a ferry crossing the Merrimack River. It was incorporated in 1760 and was named after the British admiral, Lord Edward Boscawen. The town’s farmland included apple, cherry and pear orchards. Early industries included cotton mill, sawmills, and a chair and match factory. The Northern Railroad was built through Boscawen in 1846.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Boscawen was home to 3,627 residents. This included 1,260 households and 913 families. The average family size was 2.97 and the average household size was 2.57. Boscawen is comprised of 24.7 square miles of land and 0.7 square miles of water.
