Once predominately a mill town, the village has been restored to an active retail center while keeping its historic character. The village is on the National Register as a historic Mill Village. Nearby are miles of hiking/cross-country skiing trails connecting with Quechee State Park along the Ottaquechee River

Quechee was also known for a picturesque covered bridge at the site of the old Quechee mill, which now houses a commercial glass-blowing facility. The bridge was severely damaged by flooding caused by Hurricane Irene (2011).
