Ashfield is located in the southwest corner of Franklin County Massachusetts, in the 01330 zip code.  It is situated in the foothills of the Berkshires.  The town offers scenic vistas and wooded areas.

Ashfield was settled in 1743 and incorporated in 1765.  It is bounded by the towns of Buckland to the north, Hawley to the northwest, Goshen and Cumington to the south, Conway to the east and Plainfield to the west.  The town belongs to the Mohawk Trail Regional School District.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Ashfield was home to 1,800 residents.  This included 741 households and 500 families.  Ashfield is comprised of 40.3 square miles of land and 0.1 square miles of water.
