Northfield Real Estate

Northfield is located in Franklin County, Massachusetts.  The town was incorporated in 1723.

The town became home to the Northfield Seminary for Girls in 1879.  The Moody’s religious conference, which was held at the school began attracted thousands of summer visitors.  As the town became a summer resort, the Northfield Hotel opened in 1887 to accommodate the many visitors.   The Northfield Chateau, a 99-room home, was designed by architect Bruce Price as the summer home of Francis Schell who took an interest in Moody’s work.

Northfield Massachusetts was home to 2,951 residents, according to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau.  This included 815 families and 1,158 households.  The average family size was 3.04 and the average household size was 2.53.
