Alfred Real Estate

Alfred is an historic New England town located in York County, Maine.  Alfred is divided into two geographic areas; Southern Alfred and Northern Alfred.  Aflred is bounded on the northeast by Portland, to the north by Waterboro, to the east by Lyman, to the west by Shapleigh, to the southwest by Sanford, and to the south by Kennebunk.
 
The town is home to many historic homes and buildings.  Aflred’s Historic District in the center of town, includes 48 houses listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  There are also an additional 45 historically important buildings found outside the district, as identified by the Alfred Historical Committee.

Alfred is home to the Alfred Shaker Museum, located in the former Shaker Carriage House Building.  The museum is one of eight Shaker buildings remaining on Shaker Hill.
Alfred is also home to many lakes, ponds, rivers and streams.  They include Middle Branch Pond, Round Pond, Shaker Pond, Estes Lake, the Middle Branch of the Mousam River, Littlefield River, Hay Brook and Trafton Brook.  These bodies of water provide many recreational opportunities for Alfred residents.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Alfred’s population at the time was 2,497 people.  This included 996 households and 682 families.  Alfred is comprised of 27.2 square miles of land and 0.7 square miles of water.
