Berwick Real Estate

Berwick is located in York County, Maine.  It is 46 miles from Manchester, 47 miles from Portland, and 67 miles from Boston.  It is named after a town in England.

The state’s first school house was built in Berwick in 1719.  The town is also home to Hackmatack Playhouse, founded by S. Carleton Guptill in 1972.  An old wood shed located on the Guptill farmstead, is used today for rehearsals and prop storage.  The building dates back to the 1600’s and was once used as a slaughter house.    
  
According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Berwick was home to 3,571 residents.  This included 2,319 households and 1,723 families.  The average family size was 3.15 and the average household size was 2.72.
