Buckfield is a town in Oxford County, Maine, United States. Originally called Bucktown Plantation (or Plantation No. 5), in 1793 the Massachusetts General Court incorporated it as Buckfield, named for Abijah Buck.
According to the US census, the town has a total area of 37.9 square miles, of which, 37.7 square miles is land and 0.2 square miles(0.53%) is water. Buckfield is drained by the Nezinscot River, a tributary of the Androscoggin River.
As of the 2000 census, there were 1,723 people, 668 households, and 476 families residing in the town. The population density was 45.7 people per square mile. There were 715 housing units at an average density of 19.0 per square mile.
