Freeport is a coastal village located in Cumberland County, Maine, just 15 miles from Portland.

Freeport is home to a busy shopping district including upscale outlets, boutiques and designer shops.  Many hotels, bed-and-breakfasts, restaurants and cafes are also located in Freeport.

Freeport is home to many artistic displays and venues.  Exhibits by local artists can be viewed at the Harrington House, which is one of the properties owned by the Freeport Historical Society.   The Freeport Square Gallery, also on Main Street, is one of the largest galleries in the state.  The Freeport Performing Arts Center is a 501-seat performance venue.  Freeport is also the location of the annual Freeport Merchants Association Fall in the Village Art Festival.  

Freeport is home to the Pettengill Farm which is owned by the Freeport Historical Society.  It includes a saltbox farm house and 140 acres.  The farm house is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  

Located in South Freeport Village is the tower of Casco Castle.  The stone tower of the castle can be viewed from Winslow Park located at the end of Staples Point Road.  Also located in Freeport is Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Freeport was home to 7,800 residents.  This included 3,065 households and 2,151 families.
