Gilead is a town in Oxford County, Maine, United States. Upon incorporation in 1804, it was named for the large quantity of Balm of Gilead trees in the town center.
According to the US census, the town has a total area of 19.7 square miles, of which, 19.1 square miles is land and 0.6 square miles (3.20%) is water.
As of the 2000 census, there were 156 people, 70 households, and 45 families residing in the town. The population density was 8.2 people per square mile. There were 125 housing units at an average density of 6.6 per square mile.
