Kennebunkport is located in York County, Maine.  It is situated 16 miles southeast of Alfred and 25 miles from Portland.  It is bordered to the north by Biddeford and to the west by Kennebunk.  Kennebunkport’s town center is located along the Kennebunk River.

Kennebunkport was historically a New England fishing and shipping village.  For over a century, it has been a popular seaside destination for tourists and has been noted as one of the Northwest’s most expensive vacation spots.  The town includes a small district of souvenir shops, art galleries, restaurants, seafood restaurants, and bed and breakfasts for its visitors.

Kennebunkport’s rows of Ocean Avenue seaside estates have earned the town its reputation as and upscale community.  Kennebunkport attracts wealthy people from across the Northeast for summer vacation.  It is also is a stop for tour buses showing tourists the well-known New England fall colors.

The summer house of former United States President George H.W. Bush is located in Kennebunkport.  The house was built by Bush's grandfather, and has been a family home ever since.  Many world leaders have visited the Bush’s Kennebunk home throughout the years, including Margaret Thatcher, Mikhail Gorbachev, Vladimir Putin and Nicolas Sarkozy.

The town of Kennebunkport holds a 10-day Christmas celebration, known as Christmas Prelude.  The town was recently honored by HGTV as the #2 Christmas Town in America for its Christmas Prelude.

Kennebunkport is home to many parks.  These include Beachwood Park, Cape Porpoise Fireman's Park, Silas Perkins Park and The Park at Crow Hill.

Kennebunkport is comprised of 20.6 square miles of land and 1.4 square miles of water.  According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Kennebunkport’s population was 3,720.  This included 1,091 families and 1,615 households.  The average family size at the time was 2.78 and the average household size was 2.30.
