Mercer is a town in Somerset County, Maine, United States. The town was named after Revolutionary War hero Brigadier General Hugh Mercer.
According to the US census the town has a total area of 27.4 square miles, of which 26.7 square miles is land and 0.7 square miles (2.41%) is water.
As of the 2000 census, there were 647 people, 256 households, and 178 families residing in the town. The population density was 24.2 people per square mile. There were 366 housing units at an average density of 13.7 per square mile.
