New Gloucester is located on the northern end of Cumberland County, Maine.  It is situated between Portland and Lewiston-Auburn.  The town includes several acres of forest and farmland.

New Gloucester is home to the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village.  It was founded in 1783 and is the last active Shaker Village in the country.  It includes 1,800 acres of land and 18 buildings.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, New Gloucester was home to 5,461 residents.  This included 1,761 households and 1,313 families.
