Norway is a town in Oxford County, Maine, United States. It is home to Lake Pennesseewassee, a recreation area. Rustfield Plantation was incorporated on March 9, 1797 as Norway. According to the US census, the town has a total area of 47.5 square miles, of which, 45.1 square miles is land and 2.4 square miles (5.03%) is water. Norway is drained by the Pennesseewassee Stream and Little Androscoggin River. As of the 2000 census, there were 4,611 people, 1,972 households, and 1,256 families residing in the town. The population density was 102.3 people per square mile. There were 2,551 housing units at an average density of 56.6 per square mile.
