Porter is a town in Oxford County, Maine, United States. Porter includes Porter village and part of Kezar Falls. First called Portersfield Plantation, it was incorporated as a town on February 20, 1807, named for its principal proprietor. According to the US census, the town has a total area of 32.9 square miles, of which, 31.5 square miles is land and 1.4 square miles (4.34%) is water. Porter is drained by the Ossipee River. As of the 2000 census, there were 1,438 people, 562 households, and 1,410 families residing in the town. The population density was 45.7 people per square mile. There were 742 housing units at an average density of 23.6 per square mile.
