Standish is situated beside Sebago Lake, in Cumberland County, Maine. It is part of the Portland-South Portland-Biddeford, Maine. Standish is bordered on the southeast by Windham and Gorham, on the south by Buxton and Hollis, on the west by Limington, and on the northwest by Baldwin and Sebago. Standish is comprised of Sebago Lake Village, Standish Corner, Steep Falls, Standish Neck, Two Trails and Richville. Standish is home to many community activities and events. These include the Family Festival in June, the Harvest Festival in October and Ice Skating events in the winter. Standish is home to two public libraries, The Old Red Church (museum), the Daniel Marrett House, the Schoolhouse Arts Center and Sebago Lake, the Standish Historical Society and Museum, and St. Joseph’s College, which is located in the White’s Bridge area. Standish is comprised of 59.1 square miles of land and 24.6 square miles of water, for a total area of 83.7 square miles. According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Standish’s population was 9,285. This included 3,205 households, and 2,464 families. The average family size was 3.03 and the average household size was 2.72.
