Waterboro is located in York County, Maine.  It is bordered by Hollis to the northeast, Limerick and Limington to the north, Newfield to the northwest, Shapleigh to the west, Lyman to the southeast and Alfred to the southwest.  It includes the districts of North, South and East Waterboro and the Lake Arrowhead Community.

Waterboro is home to Waterboro Barrens, which is one of Maine’s largest pitch pine barrens and to Lake Arrowhead.  The town is part of the Maine School Administrative District 57.

Waterboro is also home to the James Leavitt House, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  This Greek Revival home was built in 1850 and now operates as a house museum.  The interior molding and carved corner blocks in this historic home are rarely found in rural homes in Maine.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Waterboro was home to 6,214 residents.  This included 2,211 households and 1,704 families.  The average family size was 3.15 and the average household size was 2.81.
