Derry is located in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. It is located an hour from Boston, an hour from the seacoast, and an hour from the base of New Hampshire’s Great Mountains. Derry is crossed by Interstate 93, New Hampshire Route 102, and New Hampshire Route 28. Derry is home to the Adams Memorial Opera House, the Children’s Metamorphosis Museum, the Derry Historical Society and Museum, the Robert Frost Homestead, the Taylor Mill State Historical Site and the Rockingham Recreational Trail. It is home to two of the country’s oldest private schools; Pinkerton Academy, which was founded in 1814, and Adams Female Seminary, which is now closed. Derry was incorporated in 1827 and was once part of Londonderry. The town was named for Derry, in Northern Ireland. Derry’s population has greatly increased over the past decades. Derry’s population is five times greater than it was in 1963. The increase in population spurred many housing developments, and hundreds of new apartment units.
