Dunbarton is located in Merrimack County, New Hampshire.  It is 13 miles from Manchester and 67 miles from Boston.

Dunbarton town was originally granted in 1735 as Gorham’s town, and then in 1748 as Starkstown.  It was incorporated in 1765 as Dunbarton.  The town is home to five ponds; Gorham Pond, Kimball Pond, Long Pond, Purgatory Pond and Stark Pond.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Dunbarton was home to 2,226 residents.  This included 814 households and 648 families.  The average family size was 3.03 and the average household size was 814.  Dunbarton is comprised of 30.9 square miles of land and 0.5 square miles of water.
