Hampton is located beside the Atlantic Ocean, near the center of the New Hampshire seacoast, in Rockingham County, New Hampshire. Hampton's beaches account for about one third of the New Hampshire coastline. Hampton is home to Hampton Beach State Park at Hampton Beach, a dynamic tourist destination in the summer. Surfers can be spotted year-round at Hampton's North Beach, which is hidden from view by a mile long stone wall and sidewalk. Great Boar’s Head, a prominent landmark, is located between Hampton's North Beach and Hampton Beach proper. On the south side of Great Boar’s Head, is a wide sandy beach. This beach is a popular destination among the millions of New Hampshire’s Seacoast visitors. Restaurants, hotels, and shops are all found along this beach. Hampton also has a strong business community including supermarkets, local stores and fine dining restaurants. It is also home to Lilly Software and Foss Manufacturing. Hampton contains 13.0 square miles of land and 1.5 square miles of water. According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Hampton had a population of 14,937 people, 6,465 households, and 4,034 families. The average household size was 2.28 and the average family size was 2.86. Hampton Real Estate and Homes: In 2007, it was estimated that Hampton’s population was 15,390. Hampton real estate was comprised of 9,873 total homes. This included 5,391 single family houses and 4,204 multi-family homes.
