Newington Real Estate

Newington is located in Rockingham County, in New Hampshire’s Seacoast Region.  It is bordered by Great Bay on the west, by Little Bay on the northwest, and by the Piscataqua River on the northeast.  It is sixty miles from both Boston and Portland.

Newington is home to many historic landmarks and historic residential homes.  Newington’s Old Town Center Historic District is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.  The 100 acre district is home to a 19th century Town Hall, the Langton Library, the 1712 Meeting House, and the oldest Town Forest in the country. 

Newington is crossed by U.S. Route 4 and New Hampshire Route 16.  It is in close proximity to Interstate 95.  Its highway access connects it to the cities of Rochester, Portsmouth, Dover and Somersworth, and the states of Maine and Massachusetts.  Newington’s convenient highway access has helped make the town New Hampshire’s third largest retail market.  The number of daily shoppers and employees exceeds 30,000.

Newington includes New Hampshire’s largest deep water port, with storage facilities for gasoline, oil, petroleum gas, asphalt, salt and gypsum rock.  It is also home to some of the state’s largest electrical power plants.  The Portsmouth International Airport at Pease, and the New Hampshire Coast Guard are also located in Newington.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Newington’s population at the time was 775 people.  This included 294 households and 209 families.  The average family size was 3.01 and the average household size was 2.55.  Newington is comprised of 8.4 square miles of land and 4.1 square miles of water. 

Newington Real Estate and Homes:  In 2000, there were 304 homes in Newington and an average of 36 homes (houses / condos) per square mile.  By 2007, it was estimated that real estate in Newington was comprised of a total of 323 homes.  This included 277 single family houses and 44 multi-unit homes.
