Barnard is located in Windsor County, Vermont and is centered on Silver Lake.  It is 10 miles from Woodstock, and 40 miles from Montpelier.

Barnard was settled in 1774 and incorporated in 1778.  The town’s center includes the village, and a pond.   The town is home to the Silver Lake State Park and Barnard Academy.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Barnard Vermont was home to 958 residents.  This included 383 households and 276 families.  The average family size was 2.84 and the average household size was 2.50.  Barnard Vermont is comprised of 48.7 square miles of land and 0.2 square miles of water.
