Hartford is located in the Upper Valley Region in Windsor County, Vermont.  The town lies on the border of Vermont and New Hampshire.  It is situated 14 miles from Windsor and 42 miles from Montpelier. 

Hartford includes the historic villages of Hartford, West Hartford, Quechee, Wilde and White River Junction – all of which are located on the National Registry of Historic Places.  The Connecticut, Ottauquechee and White rivers flows through the town.

Hartford offers many outdoor recreational opportunities including biking, hunting, hiking, ice skating, ice fishing, skiing, snowshoeing, and several water activities.

According to the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Hartford Vermont was home to 10,367 residents.  This included 4,509 households and 2,800 families.  The average family size was 2.86 and the average household size was 2.28.  Hartford is comprised of 45.2 square miles of land and 0.8 square miles of water.
