Pownal is a bedroom community located in Bennington County, Vermont.  It is situated eight miles from Bennington and 30 miles from Brattleboro.

Pownal is home to the oldest house in Vemont, the Mooar-Write House.  It is believed that the house was built either in the 1750’s by John Defoe, or possibly in 1765 by Charles Wright.

As of the 2000 U.S. Census Bureau, Pownal Vermont was home to 3,560 residents.  This included 1,373 households and 1,010 families.  Pownal Vermont is comprised of 46.7 square miles of land and 0.1 square miles of water.
