Vermont's covered bridges are genuinely outstanding. As you journey around Windsor County and beyond, you can find more than one hundred sprinkled throughout the state. When you're looking for homes, you should take time to see the picturesque beauty of these local landmarks!
These marvelouscuriosities each have a long history and a story to tell.
One of the most interesting covered bridges of all is the Quechee covered bridge.
The Quechee Covered Bridge is a Masterpiece of Its Type
This single span 70-foot steel stringer bridge may not be the oldest one around being first built in 1970. Even so, it consistently attracts interest from tourists and locals alike.
It has even led to the creation of a local charitable organization, Friends of the Quechee Covered Bridge, including volunteers that keep the nearby area looking neat and tidy.
Quechee Bridge is a beloved part of our community spanning the Ottauquechee River and is in frequent use today. With its excellent location, it is easy to enjoy: There's a pedestrian walkway alongside the two lanes of traffic so you can take photographs.
Sightseers have commented on the magnificent views that you can find on either side of the bridge.
Facing east, you'll see a rocky gorge that looks like it came from a postcard. It's "gorgeous" in any weather, but it's particularly breathtaking when winter snows have settled. Facing west, you can enjoy the old mill dam and waterfall, which look spectacular in any season.
There are even some fun attractions right in the vicinity. The Simon Pearce glassblowing factory includes a restaurant, bar, store, and glassblowing workshop that's open to the public. It's just a few steps from the bridge and serves an exquisite range of upscale entrees.
Recently, it became even easier to enjoy the Quechee Covered Bridge. The nearby town of Hartford set aside a brand new "pocket park" on the bridge's upstream side in summer of 2017. New plantings were installed to beautify the embankment area, too.
